Bones of Contention is the thirty-first episode of Krypto the Superdog.
Summary[]
The Dog Stars, are given chew toys that make them annoy one another.
Plot[]
Up in the "Dog Stars" spaceship, Hot Dog, trains in the ship's obstacle course being sprayed by mega-hoses and testing his flaming abilities, as Brainy Barker, looks on challenging him. Meanwhile Krypto, and the other Dog Stars, watch the galaxy for crimes, and are suddenly greeted by a package. The huge package is from an ambassador. When they open it, they discover a lot of bone-shaped squeaky toys.
Oddly enough, while gnawing the chew toys, they suddenly begin to get competitive and fight with one another who is the best, except for Hot Dog. Hot Dog notices his friends arguing but decides to ignore it and continues chewing his own toy. It's revealed the delivery dog that delivered the toys was Snooky Wookums, in disguise. He planned an evil scheme through the squeaky toys as they are making the dogs fight and snap at one another. Meanwhile, back at the "Dog Stars" spaceship, they continue being competitive and angrier at one another until they decides to leave the ship, except for Hot Dog. Hot Dog notices that everyone is gone as he sees them leaving on the ships monitor and believes that his friends decided to go out for lunch as he hopes that one of them will bring something back for him to eat. However, Hot Dog hears someone breaking into the ship and hides behind the monitor. Mekanikat and Snooky Wookums enter the ship as they plan to take it over with the "Dog Stars" gone. Hearing that Snooky Wookums was the one who sent them the chew toys, Hot Dog realizes as to why his friends were acting so grump and left. However, after dropping his chew toy, Hot Dog, tries to grab it but he gets spotted by Mekanikat then order his Katbots to get him. Hot Dog gets away before he is capture then flies off to Earth to find his friends.
Streaky shows up, asking Krypto if he wants to stop by the pet shop, but he snaps at him, which scares him away. Hotdog takes away Krypto's bone and melts it, snapping him back to his senses, and explains that the chew toys are making them all cranky. Krypto discovers kryptonite in his chew toy as he realizes as to why he was infected then asks Hot Dog as to why he wasn't effected. Hot Dog responds that he is already cranking but knows how to control himself and reminds Krypto that they need to find their friends. Hot Dog and Krypto gather the remaining members of the Dog Stars then take away their bones one by one, which brings them back to their senses. After getting everyone together and have been explained of the situation, the "Dog Stars" return to space to reclaim their ship. Mechanikat and Snooky transport away, with Mechanikat informing Snooky of his punishment for his failure. Hot Dog is rewarded with a giant hot dog and decides to share it with his friends.

- This is the first time an episode is focused around one of the Dog Stars. The focused character being Hot Dog.
- This is the only episode to be written by Andy Merrill.
- The doorbell heard in this episode delivers the same tone heard in The Jetsons.
- A "bone of contention" is a disputed point in an argument that hasn't been settled. It is a metaphor based on the idea of two animals (such as dogs) fighting for possession of a bone. Here, its use as an episode title serves both as a reference to the hostile feelings between Krypto and the Dog Stars generated by the squeaky toys and as a pun on the phrase itself, since not only are there (toy) bones featured in the episode, but bones are often associated with dogs in general.
- Hot Dog is immune to the effects of the fake squeaky bones due to him being cranky and hotheaded by default.
